Brittany Trotter

Teaching Philosophy

As a music educator, I strive to empower, engage, challenge, and stimulate growth in students. An important key to my teaching and mentoring style is creating a cooperative and creative environment where I can provide in-depth constructive feedback to facilitate student ownership of learning. I accommodate my teaching using learner-centered strategies while utilizing music topics relevant and accessible to a diverse group of students. Through learner-centered teaching, students learn to depend on a process of perceiving, judging, and valuing in their playing and learning outcomes.

private flute lessons

Brittany Trotter’s flute studio focuses on developing well-rounded musicians by fostering a lifelong appreciation of the arts and by encouraging strong musical skills through the study of the flute. All lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs and goals. Students learn the fundamentals of flute performance through effective learning techniques that are individualized for varying skill levels from beginners to collegiate. Through a combination of fun musical activities and challenging objectives students thrive in an enthusiastic environment for learning.

I am always looking for new and dynamic ways to teach the technical and musical aspects of flute performance, I pride myself in taking part of each student's growth and diligently working to find the best opportunities for my students.  Whether you are young or old, striving to enter the professional musical world or enjoy playing the flute for your personal enjoyment, I look forward to being a part of your musical growth and inspiration!

student testimonials

Brittany is able to see everyone's potential. She offers colorful analogies to help bring a piece alive. As her student, I have improved greatly from not being able to make All-State to getting second chair in the short time I have been under her instruction. Uncomfortable and confusing techniques become much simpler after Brittany explains them because she knows what it is like to be a student too. She is a phenomenal teacher and player and I am glad to have had the privilege to study with and get to know her.

Britt showed immense interest in whether or not I succeeded. She was very patient and kind and understanding with any questions, shortcoming, and struggles I had, and always worked to make sure I understood new concepts. Britt is fantastic about demonstrating and talking through concepts. When all else fails, her analogies and comparisons make all the difference. Britt has an interesting ability to describe things in completely out-of-the-box ways, making comparisons and painting pictures that, oddly, make sense with the concepts at hand.

Having Miss Brittany tutor me has impacted me so much. The one-on-one time with her has helped me to address and overcome things that I felt I could not do. She has helped me become more comfortable with playing. I know that without having the accountability and guidance, there is no way I could have gotten to where I am now. I am much more confident! My one regret is not taking lessons sooner.
